A cool little map that shows the last time that each European country (plus some of the Middle East + Africa) was occupied by a foreign power. Click the image to see a full-size version.

There are mistakes, plus the map is a little out of date (it doesn’t reflect the annexation of Crimea by Russia)…but it’s still pretty cool. If you want to know more, check out the Vox article which provides some more details.
