⚡ Consider what the future holds for humans, and how our decisions can shape that future.

A follow up to Sapiens, Homo Deus delves further into the question of what the future holds.

Harari uses various insights on historical developments (many of which will be familiar if you’ve read Sapiens) to open the reader’s eyes to the fact that the near future is likely to involve some monumental change. Although we tend to predict the future in terms of past trends, this rarely fits with what actually happens. By analysing these past trends Harari shows how short-sighted we can be.

So what does he open our eyes to? Technological developments, their effect on human life and the big question of whether humans will continue to exist as we think of them now (or whether we will become so adept at controlling our biology that we’re able to create a race of superhumans). Fascinating stuff.
