If you want to develop self-discipline, meditation is a fantastic place to start.

Self-discipline is founded on willpower — the ability to exert control over your impulses (and ultimately resist them). Willpower, as Kelly McGonigal explains in The Willpower Instinct, is like a muscle. The more you train it, the stronger it becomes. Meditation is weightlifting for your willpower muscle.

I really like Charlie Amber’s writing for Daily Zen. This short blog post gives his view on the links between meditation and self-discipline. Well worth a read.

If you enjoy it, be sure to check out his post on selfless improvement too.
