William Onyeabor was a popular funk musician in Nigeria in the 1970s and 1980s — he self-released eight albums between 1977 and 1985.

Little was known about him outside of Nigeria — it was rumoured that he had studied cinematography in Russia and released films, but no trace of them existed. When his music was released by the Luaka Bop record label in the US, people wanted to know more about him. This documentary tries to piece together the truth about Onyeabor, with the crew travelling to Nigeria to track him down.
